This was so great to read Rusty. All grandparents should read this about how to be supportive. I had the opposite experience, with my mother trying to undermine me because of my lack of mothering experience. It did make me feel incompetent and I failed to even try after some time. Add the lovely postpartum hormones to the mix. It was a couple of miserable months.

New parents do need a lot of support, but at the same time, they need to be trusted to make this most important connection of a lifetime.
