Great article! I played with Barbies growing up and as a brown kid, I never paid any attention to the color of her skin or her unattainable figure. She didn’t look like me at all and I didn’t care. All I remember is hours of dress up and all kinds of fun pretend play with my friends. I still love looking at packaged Barbie dolls and accessories!
Barbie never inspired me to become a doctor or an astronaut. She just let me enjoy being a kid. So, I think we should just let toys be toys. Also, we shouldn’t make everything about race. If a kid chooses a white barbie over a brown one, let them. We should pay more attention to how they treat real people.
Yes, like you said dolls should be made to represent diverse nationalities and races.
Now, those LOL dolls, I find a complete waste. Such teeny, tiny things in big packaging that cost so much!
